Lipton Ice Tea Glass

Project Summary

Lipton is the iconic global sunshine brand and their flavoured ice tea is loved all around the world. For such a popular and loved drink, Lipton had a very disjointed approach to their signature serve glassware with many different glass designs used for their varied markets. The principal design used in their key market, the Netherlands, was the loved Chalice Glass. Despite being a timeless piece of visibility for the brand, it has many issues such as lack of stackability, cost and a slightly outdated look and feel.

The team at Pepsi-Lipton, a joint venture between Pepsi and Unilever, asked us to design a brand new glass and signature serve which could be rolled out globally and address the key issues. It needs to be stackable, dishwasher-safe, premium and versatile enough that it can be used for other soft drinks but still hero Lipton, sunshine and exquisite refreshment.

The Design

Our beautiful design for the global Lipton Ice Tea glass looks to cue refreshment and intrigue with every sip. The bold modern profile has created a timeless piece of visibility whilst hiding tons of function and versatility. Around the outside of the glass we have 16 facets representing the average number of sunshine filled hours in a given day. They are carefully pillowed to allow beautiful light refraction and a magical touch in the hand. On the inside we added subtle facet detailing which is hidden when the glass is filled with liquid, but then reveals themselves as the user drinks. The final smile comes when the drink is finished and the consumer reveals the hidden Lipton logo on the underside of the glass.

 

The stunning gold Lipton logo sits above our horizon line, as though it were shining in the the clear blue sky. The gold print on the embossing of the logo creates such depth and standout on the backdrop of the ice tea colour. When filled to the brim with ice, lemon garnish and chilled tea, the condensation elevates our design even further with chilled droplets running down the grooves of the outside and enhancing the tactility of the proud Lipton logo.
