Brand Environment Design
Gordon's is the world's number one best selling gin, and was first distilled back in 1769. So last year, 2019 marked the huge anniversary celebration of 250 years for the beloved gin brand. Diageo, the parent company who own Gordon's Gin, wanted to celebrate in style with their colleagues and collaborators who have helped Gordon's get to where it is and especially those who have worked on the most recent refresh of the brand.
Our brief was to plan, design and implement a gin tour and dinner party for 90 guests to celebrate Gordon's 250 year anniversary. They wanted us to show how the brand world could be brought to life in an environment through furniture, decor and graphics.
Initial floor plan of the venue to plan consumer journey and layout flow
For this project I wanted to showcase my ability to design, plan, manage and lead an event and so took ownership of a large part of the project. For events that are very temporary I wanted to strike the right balance between ensuring the venue looked spectacular and instagramable but was feasible to produce and set-up in a limited time-frame. Regardless of the logistical challenges, we wanted to ensure the guests all had a great time and that there were some unexpected surprises throughout the evening.
The sketch visual design concepts vs the final result
We wanted to evoke the spirit and essence of the brand and have it as a backdrop for the event but without being too forceful and literal. The pops of colour through decor such as candles, flowers and lighting were used to show the vibrancy of the brand. We utilised shelving within the venue to showcase the history and timeline of Gordon's on one side and then the new vibrant colourful graphical communication pieces, the brand has evolved to today, on the other.
The finale of the event came when we quickly transformed the dining room into a British summertime outdoor swimming pool using the graphical patterns and colour-ways of the brand, complete with a poolside gin bar!
